The early-gothic St. Maria-Magdalena Church considered to be one of the oldest in Western Bohemia has one nave with original stronghold function with a moat, narrow windows etc., and original Gothic roof timbers. It documents early settlement of Karlovy Vary region in the early–gothic times. The foundations date back to around 1300, as proved by archeological research done in the autumn of 2005.

According to this research the oldest part of the church is the early-gothic square presbytery, not the sacristy which had been considered to be the oldest until the research.

The nave, which is in the high baroque style, was prolonged in the 18th century. A prismatic, 30m-hight tower in the west front was destroyed by lightning in 1839, newly rebuilt in 1875 and tower clock was built in. In 1898 the church was repaired and an organ exchanged.

You can find here one of the oldest Gothic bells in Bohemia – Gloria which comes from the 14th century. The heart of the bell is marked with the numeral 999, as well as one of the beams. Chronicler Leonard Vláčil, who was the local dean from 1927 – 1940, wrote out a well-researched chronicle of the village Bor. He expressed a hypothesis of a 1 000–year–old history of the village. However the numeral 999 still has an unexplained meaning.

The civic association "Kostel Bor" est. 9.9.2003 aims to preserve this listed cultural monument and then use it as a museum of local history. The costs necessary for the preservation of the church amount to approx. CZK 6.000.000,- (EUR 200.000,-).
